Factors Influencing Osteoporosis Prevention Behavior of Menopausal Women Using Health Belief Model

Abstract
Purpose: The Purpose of this study was to supply basic data for a health belief model and to elevate the level of it by examining whether menopausal women¡¯s osteoporosis prevention behaviors were related to sencitivity, sevierity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, osteoporosis knowledge, health motivation, self-esteem.

Methods: subjects were 197 menopausal women in S city. Data collection method was a structured questionnaire. data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson¡¯s correlation, and stepwise multiple regression.

Results: The most powerful predictor was health motivation (38.3%). Altogether sencitivity, sevierity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, osteoporosis knowledge, health motivation, self-esteem, were proven to account for 59% of osteoporosis prevention behaviors.

Conclusion: It suggested that health motivation, self-esteem, perceived benefits, perceived barriers should be considered when developing a menopausal women¡¯s osteoporosis prevention behaviors.
